By mid-month we were seeing some serious progress with milder weather approaching and we started talking about what kinds of vending events we would look at adding to our calendar in spring. We were scheduled to vend in Oliver on both the Saturday and Sunday of February 17 and 18. I had been invited to be part of a ‘girls night’ sleepover with two fellow vendors and George was scheduled to MC the Princeton Rotary Club annual Winefest – both on the Saturday evening. George was prepared to drive home from the Oliver Indoor Flea Market, MC the Winefest and then drive back to Oliver the following morning to meet me at the market to vend that Sunday. When we got up Saturday morning a lot of snow had fallen overnight. We had about six inches or more and we were not prepared to try to get to Oliver on time and risk George being late that night for his other commitment. So we cancelled going to Oliver.
The final weekend of the month saw another threat of heavy snow in our area but we still went to Oliver to vend. It was a good thing we did as Saturday, February 24 was one of our better days at the market since we started vending there last year. We spent the night with a friend in Okanagan Falls, about 20-minutes north of Oliver, and returned to the market to vend Sunday, February 25. It was another good day, probably our best Sunday or one of our best Sundays at that venue. Overall, the weekend was a good one for JamBusters! Our March schedule is probably going to include a few Sundays as we are starting to see a nice increase in traffic and business early in the year. We also have already added some extra events in April and May as we look forward to spending most of 2018 vending indoors – wherever we possibly can. We haven’t ruled out vending outdoors, but we won’t be doing that weekly and have already chosen a few venues we intend to keep on our outdoor vending calendar.
So February fooled us with weather that forced us to cancel a weekend of vending. It also gave us a couple of our best days so far this year along with a lot of interest in our newest addition – Sparkle By Bee (hair silks). Plus, our Watkins business increased in February. For the shortest month of the year, it sure has been full of surprises for both George and our vending business(es).
