One day George and I decided that we could take JamBusters! on the road to various Christmas Craft Fair events. We decided on an area we would be interested in travelling to and chose the radius of about an hour’s drive from home for our target with some wiggle room for the odd exception. At first it was not easy finding information regarding Christmas Craft Fairs but we did locate some.
We started to see a pattern for the dates with most of the events we were hoping to attend all falling on either the same weekend or on a weekend we had other commitments. For awhile it started to look as if we were not going to be able to do any off season vending whatsoever. Then we connected with an event in mid-November.
Another event had room in late November and one in October. By the end of last week we were booked in five events from October to December with the furthest one being just over two hours away. We were excited and it meant I would be fairly busy in the kitchen off-and-on for the next several weeks. It also meant I would have to produce some new items targeted at the Christmas market.
Our first off season event was October 22nd in Hedley. The tiny community is about 40-kilometres away and the event was a fundraiser for the local community club. In fact, it was our first time ever at this event and our first time back vending in Hedley since July. We had an idea of what we were hoping the day would produce and it turned out to be a pretty good event for us.
What we liked most about the switch to indoor vending events is that we don’t have to load up so much gear in the car. We don’t need our collapsible canopy, foldable tables or ice to keep the product samples cool in the warm outdoor weather. Plus, there is no sun to beat down on products leaving us no choice but to keep moving them into the shade. Indoor vending is far easier.
We are pretty happy with the dates and events we have booked going into Christmas and will hopefully find additional shows that we can attending in January, February, March and April to keep us occupied prior to the return of the summer outdoor market vending season. All I know at this point is that both of us are enjoying it and will keep doing it as long as people keep buying our JamBusters! products.
