A Total of Six Weeks Without JamBusters! Income
By the end of the month, the Oliver Indoor Flea Market will have been closed for a total of six weeks. We didn’t miss it much at first but have since noticed how much we have relied on the routine of weekends away vending as part of our normal week of activities. We’ve also started to feel the loss of business for both our JamBusters! and Watkins products. To give you a rough idea of what I mean, sales figures from April last year show a total of 127 jars of product sold. That’s a decent month. Match that with sales from Watkins and you start to see that our home-based business is starting to feel a bit of a pinch. However, we know we are not alone.
George Ends Up Back In Hospital
While sitting in front of the television around 3:00 PM on Saturday, April 18 George mentioned to me that his right arm had suddenly fallen asleep. Within minutes he instructed me to take him to the local ER. We were there quickly and within two hours he was sent by ambulance to the cardiac ICU unit in the Kelowna General Hospital with a “life or limb” situation. A blood clot had been released into his arm. He was in the OR at 10:00 PM and spent the night recovering in the C-ICU. This was related to his issue from last November that for some reason had little follow-up done to keep tabs on the situation. He is now home, but will require a level of care that would have pulled me away from JamBusters! activities anyway.
The Future of JamBusters!
As you can see, there are a few complications that have arisen in April that are going to have an impact on what we end up doing with our home-based vending business. I haven’t done any canning since the market closed and am not sure when I will resume any of that. We may have to take a hard look at our vending activities once the COVID-19 restrictions are removed so until that time, we are in a holding pattern. We miss being in Oliver and all of our regular customers and friends we have made there. We hope to have some answers on what we will be doing in the next month.
