A LITTLE MORE ABOUT ME...

My name is Brenda. I grew up on a large farm in the southern part of Saskatchewan in Canada. We had a very large garden growing up and I remember that we had so much produce coming out of that garden that most of it got canned and stored away for winter. I spent a lot of time in the fields (which wasn't my favourite chore) along with as much time in the kitchen helping my family prepare the harvest for canning sessions that went on for weeks.
Looking back on it now, and not with a lot of excitement because it was so much work, I do have a much better appreciation for why we spend so much time preserving. Over the years I lost my interest and I blame some of it on lifestyle changes and the fact that for many of us with busy lives it just seems easier to grab things from the shelves of the grocery store with little concern for what kinds of preservatives are in those containers. I actually started JamBusters! quite by accident.
We live in the Similkameen Valley of British Columbia Canada just 45-minutes away from some of the best organic farmland in all of the country. In our yard we've had limited success growing as gardening is a lot of work for us but we have a rhubarb patch that we barely look at that produces amazing rhubarb. We rarely used it but one spring I noticed some of it was missing. I had finally regained some of my strength following a few health issues and decided that one day I would get to our rhubarb before someone else did. So, the following spring (2013) I cut some stalks and made a couple of items with the rhubarb. My husband, George, loved the loaves I baked and suggested we make better use of the patch in our yard. During the spring of 2014 I harvested our rhubarb (two varieties) and a neighbour let me have some of theirs. I had a lot of rhubarb but could not see myself using all of it for loaves so I started looking for recipes. I decided I could make some different kinds of jam and see how it turned out. I made a Gingered-Citrus Rhubarb Jam and we decided it was good enough to try to sell at a local farmer's market.
The response from customers there encouraged me to continue canning and to create a whole line of unique and interesting products. George came up with the JamBusters! name and before I knew it, I was making all kinds of jams, jellies, pickles, relishes, hot sauces, salsas and adding new items every week. I hope you find my website interesting. I invite you to follow me on Twitter @JamBusters_ and visit my 'Our Videos' Page where you'll find a series of videos my hubby and I recorded between October 2014 and January 2015 to promote JamBusters! They should give you a better idea of how normal we really are. If you are ever in our neighbourhood in southern British Columbia, please stop by our office to check out our display of products. I know you'll agree that homemade beats store bought every time!
