CUISINART Salad Spinner
There is nothing I like more than to take my salad for a spin. This salad spinner is perfect for the job and works extremely well for washing and spin drying all greens, fruits and vegetables for that special salad recipe. What I probably like the most is the easy-to-turn spin knob that I can crank up to what appears to be incredible speed. Cuisinart designed this spinner so you can add or drain water without taking the lid off and when in use the lid locks into place preventing any kind of tossed salad injury. In addition, the base is non-skid and clear which doubles in my kitchen as a serving bowl. Did I mention I don’t like extra dirty dishes?
Borner V-7000OR VPower V-Slicer (Orange)
When I need to use a vegetable slicer for salad preparation this is the king in my kitchen. The ABS plastic frame has non-slip rubber feet and includes a food safety holder, three different blade inserts that can provide you with ten different cut styles, and a blade insert holder. The stainless steel blades are very sharp and can slice, julienne, shred, cube and French fry anything that comes in contact with them. The size and thickness of the cuts can be adjusted with a simple push button motion and the blades can cut from both angles. The vegetable slicer food safety holder contains prongs that grip the food item you are sliding across the blades and protects fingers as well as makes the whole job of slicing safer, easier and in some cases, fun. Storage is a snap and an instruction manual provides tips and tricks that may inspire you to use it more and more in your kitchen. This vegetable slicer comes in green as well, but I’m a fan of the bright orange.
Microplane #34007 Cut Resistant Glove
Should my husband ever choose to assist me in the kitchen while preparing vegetables for one of my favourite salad recipes I am certain he would require the use of this glove. I keep it in my ‘first aid’ drawer next to the sink. All kidding aside, this glove is amazing. It is made of cut resistant fibres, fits most hands and can be tossed into the washing machine for cleaning. If you want to remove the stress of sharp blades slicing more than vegetables, then you’ll want one of these.
Bron Original Stainless Steel Mandolin Slicer
When I want to make music in the kitchen I pull out my mandolin slicer. Okay, enough of the wordplay. When I get serious about a salad recipe, especially when I’m entertaining guests, I will pull out my professional, made in France, slicer. This work of art includes three adjustable blades and adjustable settings that will result in hundreds of different kinds of cuts. This kitchen tool slices, juliennes, chips, waffles, ripples and does just about anything I want it to – except play music. There’s hand protection with a safety guard and the complete unit is made of stainless steel and folds flat for easy storage.
Dean Tennessee A Style Acoustic-Electric Mandolin Vintage Sunburst
To be fair to the music lovers who also spend as much time in the kitchen as I do, here’s another kind of Mandolin. Only this one doesn’t slice or cut anything other than fingers from playing it too much. The classic styling of this instrument combined with contemporary electronics makes this a true crossover product. It has a spruce top and mahogany back, sides and neck with a twenty fret rosewood fingerboard. Grover tuners and a Dean single coil pickup include volume controls plus additional tone controls make sound when plugged in a breeze. This may not help you with your salad recipe but it could help get the party started.
Although I was kidding about mandolins, when it comes to making the perfect salad I’m all business. I think it has to do with the fact that I love just about any kind of salad and part of the fun for me is the preparation. I enjoy using spinners, vegetable slicers and anything else that can help me make the best salad recipe in my kitchen.
